Our Lady of Sorrows (Sept. 15)

MARY AT THE CROSS

Today, as we honour Our Lady of Sorrows, we contemplate Mary standing faithfully beside the Cross of her Son. She could not remove His suffering, yet she remained there in silent love, sharing deeply in His pain. Her presence at Calvary reveals a faith that does not run away when life becomes difficult. Even with a heart pierced by sorrow, Mary continued to trust in God and remained united with Jesus until the end.

Mary’s sorrows also teach us how to accompany those who suffer. There are moments when words cannot heal and problems cannot immediately be solved; what matters most is a loving presence. At the Cross, Jesus entrusts Mary to the beloved disciple and, through him, gives her to us as our Mother. In our grief, loneliness, disappointments, and struggles, we can turn to her with confidence, knowing that she understands human sorrow and always leads us closer to her Son.

As we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, may these Smart Liturgy resources help our communities enter more prayerfully into the mystery of Christ’s suffering and Mary’s faithful discipleship. Please share these resources with your families, friends, parish groups, and communities so that together we may learn from Mary to remain faithful, compassionate, and filled with hope.
